Vintage Church: Timeless Truths and Timely Methods (Mark Driscoll and Gerry Breshears)

The undeniable truth is that contextualization is not something done just by Christian missionaries in other nations, but it is something done by every Christian in every culture even if they don’t recognize it.

Contextualization is about making the church as culturally accessible as possible without compromising the truth of Christian belief. In this, what is
==========

Relativists are willing to compromise Christian truth in the name of relating to lost people. This is a problem because they seek to change Jesus, wrongly believing he is not relevant to people and their lives. Conversely, relevantists know that Jesus

Mark Driscoll: Vintage Church .2

The apparent conflict between preaching for seekers and preaching for believers is resolved simply by noting that both need to repent of sin and trust in Jesus to live a new life empowered by the Spirit.

I would be devastated if my wife rarely uttered my name, and Jesus’ bride, the church, is too often guilty of not speaking the name of Jesus with frequent passion from the pulpit.

sacrament, which refers to an outward, visible sign of an inward, invisible spiritual reality.

because most recipients of baptism are infants in these Christian traditions, personal repentance and belief are neither the prerequisite for baptism nor the basis of salvation.

“Baptism is a sacrament of the New Testament, ordained by Jesus Christ, not only for the solemn admission of the party baptized into the visible Church; but also to be unto him a sign and seal of the covenant of grace, of his ingrafting into Christ, of regeneration, of remission of sins, and of his giving up unto God, through Jesus Christ, to walk in the newness of life.”

Mark Driscoll: Vintage Church

This means that we can live like Jesus, doing what he did, with two exceptions. One, we must continually repent of personal sin, which is something the sinless Jesus never had to do. Two, we are not continually and perfectly able to live like Jesus because of our ongoing sinful desires.

This is made possible when we realize that because being Spirit-filled means being like Jesus, such things as poverty, sickness, and hardship are not incompatible with living a Spirit-filled life, as many false health-and-wealth teachers preach. Indeed, the only perfect Spirit-filled person who has ever lived, Jesus Christ,

Unity is possible when we stop thinking of our church or denomination as the vine and all others as the branches. Rather, Jesus is the vine and all of us are branches.

Living a regenerated life primarily means that our deepest desires are to live in loving obedience to Jesus out of our new heart by the power of the Holy Spirit.

“The church is the community of the Kingdom but never the Kingdom itself.”

This is made possible when we realize that because being Spirit-filled means being like Jesus, such things as poverty, sickness, and hardship are not incompatible with living a Spirit-filled life, as many false health-and-wealth teachers preach. Indeed, the only perfect Spirit-filled person who has ever lived, Jesus Christ,

preaching is the first priority of ministry that leads God’s mission, which is accompanied by various other ministries that support, supplement, and sustain the preaching of God’s Word in truth with passion.

1)Turn your critics into coaches by hearing what they are saying and humbly considering if there is any truth to their criticism. 2) Never engage the critics on their terms because it only escalates the conflict and is not productive. 3) Be very careful about firing off emails or leaving voicemails and responding out of anger in a way that you will later regret.4) Shout louder than your critics to define yourself, and do not allow them to define you.

George Barna, are now making outlandish claims that any Christian church that owns a building, meets regularly, has a paid pastor, or any leader who preaches a sermon is pagan. In his book Pagan Christianity?

Preaching is not sharing or chatting but rather proclaiming with authority and passion the truth of God’s Word about Jesus.

Mark Driscoll : Igreja
